Britney Spears Hospitalized
Cops take her in for evaluation after custodial dispute
Los Angeles police officers detained Britney Spears on Thursday after receiving a call in the ongoing custodial dispute over her children, an LAPD spokesman said. The call came in about 8 p.m. PT from outside the home, said Jason Lee, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers and a supervisor went to the home in the 12000 block of Summit Circle in Studio City and were trying to "peacefully resolve" the conflict. There was no violence and no injuries, he said.
Lee declined to comment further about what prompted the call. By 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance and six police cruisers had arrived on the scene.
About 10:50 p.m., the LAPD reported that Spears' two children were turned over to former husband Kevin Federline. While officers were at the home, Lee said they found Spears under the influence of an unknown substance and took her into custody to determine the substance. She was reportedly taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for evaluation, though the hospital wouldn't confirm if Spears had been admitted.
The singer and Federline have been battling for custody of their boys, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1. Federline has temporary custody and Spears has limited visitation rights.
In September, an L.A. County court commissioner ordered Spears to get a parenting coach and undergo regular drug testing. On Thursday, Spears showed up late for a deposition in the case.
