It's a long way from Hal Hartley to a FOX sitcom

Fast-talking "Gilmore Girls" mastermind Amy Sherman-Palladino has landed fast-talking indie film queen Parker Posey to play the lead in her new FOX comedy pilot "The Return of Jezebel James."

Posey will play a successful children's book editor who's forced to ask her estranged younger sister to carry a child for her when she discovers she can't conceive.

Scott Cohen ("Gilmore Girls") has already signed on for the traditional multi-camera comedy playing the boyfriend of one of the two sisters.

Posey's resistance to the pilot process is well documented, but Sherman-Palladino and executive producer (and husband) Daniel Palladino sent her the script anyway. For some reason the script struck a chord with Posey, whose recent series television credits are limited to brief bill-paying stints on "Boston Legal" and "Will & Grace."

Unless you happened to catch "Fay Grim" or "Broken English" at Sundance, you probably saw Posey most recently in 2006's "Superman Returns" and "For Your Consideration."
