CBS has reportedly let producers know the fate of their current shows and while the news is good for comedy "How I Met Your Mother," but not so happy for post-apocalyptic drama "Jericho."

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are both saying that "HIMYM" has earned a third season, giving viewers a chance potentially to find out who, exactly, the mother of Ted's children might be.

As expected, other comedy renewals went out to "New Adventures of Old Christine" (with a reduced order) and "Rules of Engagement."

That means the end of the road for "The Class." The ensemble comedy from David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik was one of the fall's most hyped comedies, which never translated into ratings, despite a marginally beneficial schedule swap.

On the drama side, there was bad news for "Jericho," which appears to have seen a mushroom cloud go up over its hopes for a second season. Initially considered one of the surprise successes of the new season, the heavily serialized drama took an extended winter hiatus and returned to find no traction against FOX's ratings behemoth "American Idol."

Also prepared not to hear its name called during CBS' Wednesday (May 16) upfronts presentation is the Jerry Bruckheimer produced "Close to Home," reportedly cancelled after two seasons.

The future looks brighter for all three "CSI" shows, "Criminal Minds," "Shark," "The Unit," "Numbers" and "Ghost Whisperer."

Find out CBS's complete schedule on Wednesday morning as part of Zap2it's upfronts coverage.
