'Pulp Fiction' veteran will star in the drama pilot 'Lie to Me'

Fresh off of brawling in the streets with the Incredible Hulk, Tim Roth is ready to tackle a different challenge: A network TV drama.

According to the industry trade papers, Roth will make his American TV series debut as the star of FOX's "Lie to Me," a one-hour drama from 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine Entertainment.

Roth will play Cal Lightman, a pioneer in the field of deception detection. That means he can tell if you're lying. In his professional life, that's an asset, but being a human lie detector causes complications in his personal life.

At the network's upfront presentation in May, FOX presented "Lie to Me" as one of several possible dramas in contention for a midseason slot, but Variety says the series has already received a 13-episode order.

Sam Baum wrote the pilot and Robert Schwentke ("Flightplan") will direct.

While Roth has done a variety of British TV projects, he's best known for roles in films like "Reservoir Dogs," "Planet of the Apes," an Oscar nominated turn in "Rob Roy" and, most recently, "The Incredible Hulk."
