Schroder's Number Is Up on '24'

Schroder will team with Kiefer Sutherland to fight crime

Rick Schroder's evolution from "Silver Spoons" tyke to all-around tough guy continues with a stint on this season's "24."

FOX announced on Monday (Dec. 4) that Schroder will join the cast of the Emmy-winning drama playing Mike Doyle, a forceful CTU agent who teams with Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer to foil an inevitable terrorist plot. Ricky Schroder? Forceful? Nice.

Schroder's addition to the cast is just the latest move in the "24" producers' nefarious attempt to employ every single member of the Screen Actors Guild this season. Schroder joins a huge list of additions that includes Jayne Atkinson, Peter MacNicol, James Cromwell, Regina King, Kal Penn, Marisol Nichols, Alexander Siddig, Harry Lennix, Chad Lowe, Powers Boothe and David Hunt.

With all of those fresh faces, it's hard to know where returning cast members like Gregory Itzin, Jean Smart, DB Woodside, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Roger Cross, James Morrison, Eric Balfour and Carlo Rota will fit in.

The series will have its two-night, four-hour premiere on Sunday, Jan. 14 and Monday, Jan. 15.

Since a highly respected stint on "NYPD Blue," Schroder has done a variety of TV movies, a guest role on "Scrubs" and a regular turn on "Strange Medicine."
