Showtime Books Full-Season Ticket to 'Tara'-dise
Toni Collette stars in the Diablo Cody-created 'The United States of Tara'
Toni Collette and John Corbett star in the series, which is produced by Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank of Dreamworks Television and by "Friends" veteran Alexa Junge.
The order covers 12 half-hour episodes to begin production in Los Angeles this summer.
"The United States of Tara" focuses on a wife and mother (Collette) who suffers from disassociative identity disorder. Naturally, her assortment of very different personalities make life extra complicated for her husband (Corbett) and their whole family.
Craig Gillespie ("Lars and the Real Girl") directed the pilot.
"Showtime is known as the home of several shows featuring flawed main characters, and we welcome Tara -- and all her alternate personalities -- to the fold," says Showtime Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt. "What a pleasure to watch Diablo Cody and Toni Collette work together, a combination of inspired writing and acting that raises this show from just a curiosity to a compelling examination of a modern family. It is our distinct pleasure to also work with Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, and all the talented people at Dreamworks Television."
The premium cable network has yet to determine an airdate for "The United States of Tara."
Showtime's next set of comedy premieres comes on June 16 when "Weeds" begins its fourth season and "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" turns its first trick.
