LOS ANGELES -- Former pop star Britney Spears' ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline, frequent public meltdowns and impending aunthood to 16-year-old sister Jamie Lynn's baby are already enough to keep her spot in the headlines guaranteed. But now it appears as though TV personality Dr. Phil McGraw wants a piece of her spotlight at well.

Spears was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Thursday (Jan. 3) night for treatment and observation after a three-hour standoff with police and Federline erupted when she was dropping off sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

McGraw decided to pay Spears a visit while she was at the hospital, reportedly at the invitation of her parents.

"My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," McGraw told entertainment news programs "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider."

"She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room," he said. "We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her."

Spears' parents will also tape a segment for McGraw's syndicated show about Britney on Monday, that will air on Tuesday.

According to entertainment news site TMZ's sources, Spears was less than pleased with McGraw's arrival on the scene and only spent 15 minutes with him (not the hour that McGraw claims) during which time he did all of the talking.

These sources also deny that McGraw accompanied Spears to her car.

While McGraw has not indicated that Spears herself will appear on his show, word is that he wants to get her parents to agree to a televised intervention.
