Sarah Silverman Is ____ for 'Match Game'
Norm Macdonald, Rashida Jones also join TBS pilot
TBS is looking to revive the bawdy "Match Game" and has recruited the likes of Sarah Silverman and Rashida Jones to help. The cable network tape a pilot for a possible revival of the show, which enjoyed a long run in the 1960s and '70s, this week. In addition to Silverman and Jones ("The Office," "Unhitched"), panelists also included comedians Norm Macdonald and Scott Thompson ("Kids in the Hall"), "Reno 911" star Niecy Nash and Bob Einstein, aka Super Dave Osborne, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Long-time "Saturday Night Live" writer Robert Smigel (who also co-wrote "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" and is the voice of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog) is executive producing the new version. Andrew Daly ("Semi-Pro") served as host for the pilot.
"Match Game" was first seen on television in the early 1960s but is probably best remembered for its 1970s heyday, when both daytime and evening versions of the show existed. Contestants were asked to fill in a missing word to a risque line like "My friend is really kinky. He's the kind of guy who mentally undresses ____," and hope that a panel of celebrities provided the same answer.
Regulars on the show, hosted by Gene Rayburn, included Betty White, Richard Dawson and Charles Nelson Reilly. Reruns of the show air on GSN.
