Miley Cyrus Will Host 2008 Teen Choice Awards
'Gossip Girl' and Chris Brown lead the typically crowded nomination field
The nominations announced on Tuesday (June 17) include a whopping 14 for The CW's "Gossip Girl" and its young cast. With nine nominations, Chris Brown is the leading individual nominee.
Justin Timberlake, who holds the Teen Choice record with 21 winning surfboards since 1999, can add to his haul with three nominations.
As usual, FOX will broadcast the 10th annual ceremony on Monday, Aug. 4 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City.
Voting is now open at the Teen Choice website for fans ages 13-19 (you know... teens).
While the word "choice" is included in the show's title, the Teen Choice 2008 nominees are all about spreading the wealth. Because, for example, the TV series categories include genres like "Celebrity Reality," "Looking for Love" and "Game Show," more than 50 individual shows are up for prizes. Similarly, because the movie categories cover everything from drama to something called "Bromantic Comedy," more than 30 films have Choice Movie nominations. Awards are also being spread around in sports, fashion, comedy and music.
Want to know where all of those "Gossip Girl" nominations went? Well, the series is up for Choice TV Show: Drama and Choice TV Breakout Show, while stars Chace Crawford and Penn Badgley are up for Choice TV Actor: Drama and Blake Lively and Leighton Meester will compete for Choice TV Actress: Drama. Lively, Crawford and Meester all get repeat nominations in the Choice TV Breakout Star categories for their respective genders, as do Taylor Momsen and Ed Westwick. Crawford and Lively are also saluted for their fashion hotness.
Check out the website for the complete and exhaustive list of nominees.
