Brenda is a CIA-trained interrogator who has moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles to head the Priority Homicide Squad of the Los Angeles Police Department. She reports to Assistant Chief Will Pope, with whom she had an office romance years before.

In the first season of 'The Closer,' Brenda won over most of the officers on her team, but she continues to battle a handful of detractors. Brenda is known for her southern drawl, her roll-call-like assignment of tasks to her team, her love of sugary snacks, her inability to navigate the streets of LA, her love/hate relationship with the cats that live at her house, her tentative romance with FBI Agent Fritz Howard, her phone calls with her mama, and, of course, her propensity to say "thank you."
