FX Spends Its 'Riches' in March
Strike-shortened second season gets spring run
The show about a family of con artists, starring Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard, will bow on Tuesday, March 18. "The Riches" completed seven episodes before the start of the writers' strike, and rather than restart production when the strike ends, the network opted to shorten the season.
FX is employing a similar strategy with another second-year series, "Dirt," which will begin its seven-episode run on March 2.
Season two of "The Riches" will pick up with Wayne Malloy (Izzard) sending his Traveller family back on the road after the life they'd assumed in suburbia crumbled at the end of last season. A big land-development deal with Hugh Panetta (Gregg Henry), however, entices Wayne to stay put, while his wife, Dahlia (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Driver), finds the road life less appealing than it once was.
Shannon Woodward, Aidan Mitchell, Noel Fisher, Margo Martindale and Todd Stashwick will all reprise their roles from last season. British actor Jared Harris ("Ocean's Twelve," "Igby Goes Down") is joining the cast.
"The Riches" averaged a cumulative 5.1 million viewers in multiple weekly runs last season. About two-thirds of those viewers fell into FX's core demographic of adults 18-49.
