CBS Works for Labor Day Sunday Win
NBC, however, triumphed with adults 18-49
Despite a strong showing from NBC's NASCAR coverage, CBS sped by for the win on Sunday night with its old standby "60 Minutes" as well as its forensic crime programming over the long Labor Day weekend.
CBS averaged a 5.3 rating/10 share for the evening, followed by NBC at 4.5/8. ABC came in third with a 3.6/7, while FOX showed up with a 2.5/5. The WB made a token appearance in last place with a 1.0/2 for the night.
Adults 18-49 expressed their need for speed, however, by giving NBC's NASCAR coverage a 2.5, the highest rating for the coveted demographic, followed by CBS at 2.0. FOX barely whizzed by ABC with a 1.8 to the alphabet network's 1.7, while the WB trailed again with a 0.6.
At 7 p.m., CBS took on all comers with a strong 6.0/13 for "60 Minutes," well ahead of ABC's 3.5/8 for "America's Funniest Home Videos" repeat and NBC's 3.1/7 for NASCAR. FOX's "The '70s Show" repeat took in a 1.9/4, while the WB's "Just Legal" took in a 0.8/2.
NBC positioned itself for the lead at the 8 o'clock hour with NASCAR, 4.8/9, just ahead of CBS' reality voyeur programming, "Big Brother: All Stars" at 4.7/9. ABC joined the fray with a 3.2/7 for "Extreme Home Makeover," while FOX averaged a 2.4/5 for a "That '70s Show"/"Family Guy" combo and the WB barely "Charmed" audiences with a 1.0/2.
CBS pulled in front once again at 9 p.m., taking a 5.2/9 for a "Cold Case" repeat, ahead of NBC's continuing car racing at 4.8/9. ABC averaged a 3.2/6 for a "Desperate Housewives" rerun, while FOX pushed onward with another full hour of "The Family Guy" repeats (3.0/6) and the WB aired yet another old episode of "Charmed."
At 10 p.m., CBS won the close race with a repeat of "Without a Trace" (5.2/10) ahead of NBC's NASCAR coverage (5.1/9) and ABC's 4.2/8 for another visit to Wisteria Lane.
Saturday brought a low-key win to ABC, which averaged 2.8/10 for its sports coverage, while FOX's "Cops" double header and "America's Most Wanted" took second at 1.9/7. NBC only averaged a 1.3/5 for the night, while CBS trailed with a 1.0/3.
