FOX Has Ace in the Hole Wednesday
'Alias' return in line with prior season average
The elimination of Ace Young on "American Idol" carried FOX to another ratings win Wednesday, though CBS was fairly competitive in the overall ratings.
FOX averaged a 9.3 rating/15 share for the night to beat out CBS' 8.2/13. ABC, which featured the return of "Alias" to the schedule, finished third with a 4.9/8. NBC managed only a 3.9/6 and finished fourth. UPN, 2.3/4, took fifth, and The WB trailed with a 1.5/3.
In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 6.0 rating led by a comfortable margin over CBS' 3.8. ABC, 2.7, came in third, followed by NBC, 1.8; UPN, 1.5; and The WB, 0.9.
"Bones" put FOX on top at 8 p.m. with a 6.6/11. "The Amazing Race" posted a 5.6/10 for CBS. "Alias" scored a 4.7/8 in its first episode since December, which is about what it was averaging during the fall. "Celebrity Cooking Showdown" was fourth for NBC. UPN got a 3.2/5 from "America's Next Top Model," which was more than enough to beat The WB's "One Tree Hill."
The "Idol" results show," 16.1/25, and "Unan1mous," 8.1/13, kept FOX on top at 9 p.m. CBS jumped up to an 8.8/14 with "Criminal Minds." A second hour of "Alias" on ABC also improved some, scoring a 5.3/8. NBC's "Heist" managed only a 2.8/5 but still finished fourth. A repeat of Tuesday's "Veronica Mars" kept UPN in fifth, ahead of "The Bedford Diaries" on The WB.
CBS took over the lead at 10 p.m. with "CSI: NY," 10.3/17. A "Law & Order" rerun averaged 5.5/9 for NBC, and ABC's "Invasion" posted a 4.6/8.
