'Next Best' decent for ABC; CW's 'Palms' stay hidden

FOX hoofed its way to a ratings victory Wednesday night, holding off CBS thanks to "So You Think You Can Dance."

For the night, FOX averaged a 5.7 rating/10 share to finish just ahead of CBS, 5.6/10 (the gap was wider in total viewers, with 9.2 million for FOX to 8.04 million for CBS). ABC took third with a 4.2/7. NBC, 3.9/7, came in fourth, and The CW was well off the pace at 1.5/3.

FOX was the clear winner among adults 18-49 with a 4.0 rating. CBS took second in the key ad demographic with a 2.4, followed by ABC, 2.0, and NBC, 1.9. The CW drew a 0.9.

ABC won the 8 p.m. hour with the premiere of the celebrity-impersonator show "The Next Best Thing," 5.0/9. FOX was right behind with "So You Think You Can Dance," 4.8/9. NBC's "Most Outrageous Moments" came in third, edging a pair of "King of Queens" reruns, 3.7/7, on CBS. The premiere of "Hidden Palms" on The CW managed only a 1.3/2.

"So You Think ..." improved to 6.5/11 at 9 p.m. to move FOX into the lead. A "Criminal Minds" rerun on CBS, 6.1/10, grabbed second place. Another hour of "Most Outrageous Moments," 4.6/7, kept NBC in third. ABC dropped to fourth with a repeat of "Traveler." The CW's "One Tree Hill" improved a bit on its lead-in to score a 1.7/3.

CBS took over first at 10 p.m. with a "CSI: NY" rerun, 7.0/12. A new "Traveler" posted a 4.2/7 for ABC, beating a "Medium" repeat, 3.2/6, on NBC.
