NBC Is Master of Sunday Universe
Pageant carries Peacock to win over CBS
Fast National ratings for Sunday, July 23, 2006NBC and CBS tied for the top spot in Sunday's household ratings, but the biggest number of viewers had their TVs tuned to the Peacock.
For the night, CBS and NBC each averaged a 5.3 rating/10 share, but NBC led in total viewers with 8.26 million to CBS' 7.99 million. ABC was third for the night with a 3.5/6. FOX averaged 2.9/5 and The WB 1.1/2.
NBC also grabbed the top spot among adults 18-49 with 2.5 rating. CBS and FOX tied for second at 2.1. ABC, 1.8, came in fourth, and The WB trailed at 0.6.
CBS' "60 Minutes" started the night on top with a 5.8/12 at 7 p.m. A "Tom Brokaw Reports" special on NBC drew a 3.6/7, edging "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 3.4/7, on ABC. "Malcolm in the Middle" and "King of the Hill" put FOX in fourth, ahead of The WB's hour of "Reba," 1.3/3.
"Dateline," 5.7/10, moved NBC into the lead at 8 p.m. CBS dropped back to second with "Big Brother: All-Stars," 4.1/7. "EM: Home Edition" kept ABC in third, a little ahead of "The Simpsons," 3.5/7, and "American Dad," 3.2/6, on FOX. The WB went with a "Charmed" rerun.
At 9 p.m., the Miss Universe pageant scored a 5.6/9 for NBC. A "Cold Case" rerun delivered a 5.3/9 for CBS, while FOX moved up to third with "Family Guy," 3.9/7, and "The War at Home," 2.8/5. ABC got a 3.1/5 from its "Desperate Housewives" rerun. The WB ended its night with another episode of "Charmed."
At 10 p.m., the Miss Universe telecast improved to 6.4/11 for NBC. "Without a Trace" posted a 5.8/10 for CBS, and ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" came in at 4.1/7.
On Saturday, FOX's lineup of "Cops" and "America's Most Wanted" captured the No. 1 spot with a 3.6/7. ABC was second at 3.0/6, followed by CBS, 2.9/6, and NBC, 2.7/5.
