'Dateline' leads the way for Peacock

Fast National ratings for Friday, Sept. 1, 2006

The start of the Labor Day weekend found not too many people interested in watching TV Friday night. NBC captured the biggest share of those who did.

For the night, NBC averaged a 4.1 rating/8 share, narrowly beating CBS, 4.0/7, for the top spot. ABC was right behind at 3.9/7. FOX, 2.8/5, finished fourth, and UPN, 1.9/3, beat The WB, 1.4/3, for fifth.

ABC led the way in the adults 18-49 demographic with a 1.9 rating. NBC took second with a 1.7, edging CBS' 1.6. FOX was fourth at 1.2. UPN averaged 1.0 and The WB 0.8.

"Dateline," 4.6/9, gave NBC the lead at 8 p.m. A repeat of "America's Funniest Home Videos" was second for ABC at 4.3/8. "Ghost Whisperer," 4.0/8, put CBS in third. FOX went with a "Vanished" rerun to finish fourth. "Friday Night Smackdown!," which was pre-empted on some stations, scored a 1.7/3 for UPN. The WB trailed with "What I Like About You" and "Twins."

CBS sneaked in front at 9 p.m. with the special "Dan Rather: A Reporter Remembers," 3.7/7. NBC fell one spot to second with "Las Vegas," 3.6/7. ABC's "Kyle XY" was slightly better than a second episode of "Vanished," 3.1/6, on FOX. "Smackdown!" stayed in fifth, while "Reba" and "Living with Fran" averaged 1.7/3 for The WB.

ABC's "20/20" won the 10 p.m. hour with a 4.4/9. "Numb3rs" delivered a 4.2/8 for CBS, and a "Law & Order" rerun drew a 4.1/8 for NBC.
