TV Ratings: NFL Runs Past Sunday Competition
CBS wins the night thanks to the late-afternoon overrun
Fast National ratings for Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008The National Football League brought ratings bounty to two networks Sunday, but CBS got the biggest share of the Nielsen pie.
CBS led the ratings pack for the night with a 9.1 rating/14 share, topping NBC's 7.2/11 (both networks carried live NFL games, so their numbers will change some in the final nationals). ABC was right behind in third at 7.1/11. FOX, 3.3/6, finished a distant fourth, while The CW's "new" Sunday lineup, consisting entirely of reruns, managed only a 0.8/1.
NBC led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.3 rating, narrowly beating CBS' 4.1. ABC took third at 3.7. FOX averaged 2.4 and The CW 0.4.
The end of a highly watched Pittsburgh Steelers- New England Patriots game and "60 Minutes" averaged a 13.1/21 for CBS at 7 p.m. "America's Funniest Home Videos" drew a 5.1/8 for ABC. NBC's " Football Night in America," 4.0/6, came in third, ahead of a pair of "King of the Hill" repeats on FOX. The CW got a meager 0.8/1 from a first-season episode of " Jericho."
The football bounce kept CBS on top at 8 p.m. as "60 Minutes" and "The Amazing Race" combined for a 9.4/14. NBC moved up to second (and led among adults 18-49) with "Sunday Night Football," 7.5/11. " Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 6.7/11, snagged third for ABC. " The Simpsons," 4.4/7, and "King of the Hill," 3.6/5, were fourth for FOX. The CW aired the movie "Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course."
" Desperate Housewives," 9.8/14, moved ABC past NBC's NFL game, 9.4/14, at 9 p.m. CBS dropped to third as "The Amazing Race" and " Cold Case" averaged 7.1/10. A "Family Guy" rerun and "American Dad" scored a 3.7/5 for FOX. The CW's movie trailed.
At 10 p.m., "Sunday Night Football," featuring the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, earned an 8.1/13 for NBC. "Cold Case" and " The Unit" scored a 6.9/11 for CBS, edging the 6.7/11 for " Brothers & Sisters" on ABC.
