Mel B, otherwise known as Scary Spice, joins veteran judges Louis Walsh, Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole -- the latter two are returning for the first time since season eight -- on the judging panel for the 11th season of the original, British version of "The X-Factor." The hopefuls must make it through two sets of auditions, including closed-room auditions with the judges, before advancing to later rounds of the competition, which include boot camps and live performances in front of packed arenas. After the finale at Wembley's SSE Arena, only one singer or group is named the winner, earning a recording contract with Cowell's Syco Music label. Even the contestants who don't win could have a bright musical career in their futures; One Direction and Cher Lloyd are just a couple of the performers who lost on the show and later went on to make it big in the industry.
