Canadian 'Copper' coming to ABC
Series about rookie cops begins shooting in June
ABC has become the latest network to look to Canada to help fill its programming pipeline. The network has picked up 13 episodes of a drama series called "Copper," about a group of rookie police officers. The show, which will also air on the Global network north of the border, is slated to begin production in June.
It becomes the latest Canadian import to find a home on a U.S. network. CBS has had some success with "Flashpoint" and will add another show, "The Bridge," to its lineup during 2009-10. NBC will also have the import "The Listener" on its schedule in the summer.
"Copper" will follow five rookies who trained together at the police academy as they join a big-city police force and explore both their professional and intertwined personal lives. The joint ABC/Global press release describes them as characters who have "bonded together, fought together, drank together, worked together and slept together."
Casting info isn't available yet. The show was co-created by "Flashpoint" veteran Tassie Cameron, Morwyn Brebner and Ellen Vanstone.
