Casting call: Susan Sarandon, John Goodman, Eric McCormack
The movie, titled "You Don't Know Jack," will follow Kevorkian's (Pacino) rise to prominence as an assisted-suicide advocate and the numerous legal battles over the procedure -- including his 1999 conviction for second-degree murder for helping a terminally ill patient kill himself.
Sarandon, who starred in HBO's "Bernard and Doris" earlier this year, will play Janet Good, a Hemlock Society activist and ally of Kevorkian's, according to The Hollywood Reporter. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Good asked Kevorkian to help her end her life.
Goodman, whose recent credits include "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Speed Racer," will play another of Kevorkian's colleagues, Neal Nicol. The movie will be loosely based on the book "Between the Dying and the Dead," which Nicol co-wrote with Harry Wylie.
- Elsewhere, former "Will & Grace" star Eric McCormack will jump back into the sitcom pool on "The New Adventures of Old Christine."
McCormack will have a recurring part on the CBS show as a therapist and new love interest for Christine ( Julia Louis-Dreyfus), EW.com reports. It will be his first sitcom work since "Will & Grace" left the air in 2006.
McCormack is coming off TNT's one-and-done dramedy "Trust Me." He's also booked a guest role on "Law & Order: SVU" for early next season.
