Smith's Son Died of Lethal Drug Combo
Pathologist says death was accidental
Dr. Cyril Wecht claims that a lethal mix of methadone, Zoloft and Lexapro caused a cardiac dysrhythmia that led to Daniel Smith's death, reports People.
"In my opinion it's an accidental death," says Wecht, who got the toxicology results from National Medical Services in Willow Grove, Pa.
Twenty-year-old Daniel was found dead in his mother's hospital room in the Bahamas three days after she gave birth to his sister, Dannie Lynn Hope.
He was known to have a prescription for the antidepressant Lexapro because of a recent painful breakup, but Wecht isn't certain if the young man had a prescription for methadone, for pain relief, or Zoloft, which is also an antidepressant.
This information comes on the heels of Smith's lawyer Howard K. Stern announcing that he's Dannie Lynn's father. Photographer Larry Birkhead, however, contends that he's the father and is asking for a paternity test.
