'Robin Hood' Targets Third Season
Jonas Armstrong says it will be his last
The cable channel is co-producing the new season of the show, which is currently filming in Hungary, with production company Tiger Aspect. It's scheduled to air in the United States in 2009.
It will pick up where the second season, which concluded last week, left off, with Robin (Jonas Armstrong) bent on revenge against Gisborne ( Richard Armitage) following a tragedy (which we won't spoil here, for those of you still waiting) and the Sheriff's (Keith Allen) failure to kill Prince John. The third season will also feature the arrival of Friar Tuck (David Harewood, "Blood Diamond").
More important, though, Armstrong says the third season will be his last. "Playing Robin Hood has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life," he says. "I'm grateful to the fans for their support and to all the cast and crew for their friendship and loyalty throughout, but the time has come to take on new challenges and look at new opportunities."
His departure, however, may not mean the end of the series. The network's press release mentions the "legacy unfold[ing] after Jonas Leaves" and says Armstrong's exit will make fans "desperate to find out what happens next."
Several British papers are reporting that Tiger Aspect and the BBC are planning for a fourth season.
