Oddball pilot pits Paris Hilton against Dick Cheney in a court of law

Comedy Central has ordered up a courtroom parody pilot titled "The Root of All Evil," starring Lewis Black.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the premise finds acerbic "Daily Show" veteran Black serving as judge presiding over a variety of oddball cases involving all manner of disparate legal adversaries. The pilot, for example, features Paris Hilton vs. Dick Cheney, as well as chick flicks vs. video games.

While the actual contesting parties may not appear, each side is represented by a guest comedian arguing the merits of the cares. The pilot features, among other comics, Greg Giraldo and Paul F. Tompkins.

Scott Carter ("Real Time With Bill Maher") and David Sacks ("3rd Rock From the Sun") will executive produce.

Black, star of a number of Comedy Central specials, has taken several stabs at pilots for the network. In the meantime, he's also been padding his resume with features like "Accepted" and "Man of the Year."
