"Dancing with the Stars" will lead into a 90-minute season opener

"Boston Legal," the last orphaned show on ABC's fall schedule, has finally set its premiere date.

ABC announced on Thursday (Aug. 2) that the Emmy-winning drama will have a special 90-minute premiere at 9:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 25. "Boston Legal" will get an extra boost from its 90-minute "Dancing with the Stars" lead-in before setting into its regular 10 p.m. slot the following week.

At the Television Critics Association press tour last week, ABC unveiled a schedule that included all of its fall shows except for the conspicuously absent "Boston Legal." At the time, reporters were told that David E. Kelley and company had initially been reticent to open the season with a 90-minute episode, putting a specific premiere date in limbo.

Somehow that discomfort appears to have been cast aside.

"Boston Legal" is up for six Emmys this year, including nominations for previous winners James Spader, William Shatner and Christian Clemenson. The show also earned its first nomination for outstanding drama series.

Entering its fourth season, "Boston Legal" had added a number of new faces in regular and recurring roles including John Larroquette and Saffron Burrows.
