'Death' Becomes Brad Garrett
Ex-'Raymond' star eyeing FOX comedyLOS ANGELES --
Garrett, who won three Emmys playing sad sack Robert Barone on the long-running CBS sitcom, is in negotiations to star in a FOX comedy pilot called "'Til Death," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sources tell the paper that he agreed to the role late last week.
The pilot, from long-time "King of Queens" writers Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith, would follow newlyweds who move next door to a long-married couple, half of which would be played by Garrett. Eddie Kaye Thomas ("American Pie") previously signed onto the cast as the newly married husband.
If the deal goes through, and the show makes FOX's lineup, Garrett will have had just one season off after "Raymond" ended its nine-year run last May. He would likely have some kind of producing credit on "'Til Death" as well.
Following "Raymond's" Emmy win for best comedy series -- and his third victory in the comedy supporting actor category -- Garrett told reporters that a spinoff that would follow Robert and his wife, Amy (Monica Horan), was a possibility. The idea eventually ran out of steam, though.
