CBS Picks Up Six for 2008-09
New shows star Jay Mohr, Simon Baker, Elizabeth Reaser and Rufus Sewell
According to the industry trade papers, CBS has ordered two new comedies -- "Project Gary" and "Worst Week" -- plus four new dramas -- "The Mentalist," "Harper's Island," "The Ex List" and "Eleventh Hour" -- to be formally announced at Wednesday's (May 14) upfronts presentation to advertisers.
The pick-up for "Eleventh Hour" was a foregone conclusion since CBS had given a series commitment to the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced drama. Rufus Sewell stars as a government scientist who investigates crimes of an unusual and scientific nature. Marley Shelton co-stars in the adaptation of the British format.
"The Mentalist" features Simon Baker, starring in his third CBS drama, while "The Ex List" is the new name for the Israeli transplant formerly known as "Mythological X" and "Mythological Ex" and toplined by "Grey's Anatomy" veteran Elizabeth Reaser.
"Harper's Island" is directed by Jon Turteltaub ("Jericho") and takes a heavily serialized look at a group of wedding guests terrorized by a killer on an island off the coast of Seattle.
"Project Gary," formerly the united Ed Yeager project, stars Jay Mohr as a man balancing his kids, his ex-wife and his new girlfriend.
Also picked up on the comedy side is "Worst Week," about an engaged couple, played by Kyle Bornheimer and Erinn Hayes.
The trades speculate that "Harper's Island" is likely to be targeted for a midseason run, while it's unclear which of CBS' other shows are for fall and which are for midseason.
