Eick, Shiban exec producing miniseries

"Battlestar Galactica" executive producer David Eick and "X-Files" veteran John Shiban are teaming up for a four-hour miniseries on Lifetime.

Which raises the question: Will fanboys watch the network that used to call itself "Television for Women"?

The project, which Lifetime hopes to have on the air this fall, is called "The Gathering." The two-part miniseries will follow a doctor who investigates his wife's disappearance and discovers she's involved in "an ancient religious sect of witches determined to dominate the world."

"The scarier the real world gets, the more it seems we look to allegory to reflect our fears back at us. This is a very timely story, about how the people closest to you might be the ones you can trust the least," Eick says.

Shiban, who penned two dozen "X-Files" episodes and has also worked on "The Lone Gunmen," "Star Trek: Enterprise" and "Supernatural," is writing the teleplay for "The Gathering." He and Eick will executive produce the miniseries with Tom Patricia ("Homeless to Harvard," "Dawn Anna"), and Bill Eagles ("CSI," the BBC's "Dracula") will direct.
