FOX Sets Six New Shows For Fall
'K-Ville,' 'New Amsterdam' and 'Back to You' will premiere
As usual, the network will hold many of its biggest name shows -- "American Idol," "24" the highly anticipated new drama "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" -- for January when they can run without the risk of FOX's annual baseball programming stoppage (reduced this year).
On the drama side, FOX will welcome the post-Katrina New Orleans buddy cop drama "K-Ville," starring Anthony Anderson and Cole Hauser, as well as "New Amsterdam," about an immortal New York City cop. "K-Ville" will have the advantage of a "Prison Break" lead-in on Monday nights, while "New Amsterdam" will have to launch Tuesdays and provide a lead-in for "House," a drama that realistically requires no lead-in.
Also asked to kick off a night, Wednesday, is the lone new fall comedy "Back to You," though that heavily touted series is toplined by Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton, stars who need no introduction to TV audiences. "Back to You," set behind-the-scenes of a local newscast, will serve as something of an "Everybody Loves Raymond" reunion, with Heaton's new show setting up Brad Garrett's returning "'Til You." FOX will put "Bones" at 9 p.m. on Wednesday's through January.
On the reality front, two of the unscripted shows will be paired on Friday nights. "The Search For the Next Great American Band," a self-explanatory competition from the producers of "American Idol," will lead into "Nashville," a soapy look at the Tennessee city from the creators of "Laguna Beach."
The second new unscripted show airs on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. after the cushy "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" Although "Kitchen Nightmares" is technically new, it stars "Hell's Kitchen" chef Gordon Ramsey, bringing his particular brand of tough culinary love to a different restaurant every week.
The entire schedule will then change in January, with the addition of one new drama and two new comedies.
