Mr. 'Fantastic' Makes Smart Pilot Choice
Ioan Gruffudd joins Amy Smart in 'The Meant to Be's," while 'Harper's Island' also starts casting
Produced by Glenn Gordon Caron ("Moonlighting"), "The Meant to Be's" stars Smart as a recently deceased woman stuck in a limbo where she has to help people on Earth get their lives back on track.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Welsh actor will play the spiritual tour guide and mentor for Smart's character.
This will be Gruffudd's first regular TV gig since the futuristic drama "Century City," which you've probably forgotten about (and CBS wouldn't have it any other way). In addition to his turn as elasticized Reed Richards in the two "Fantastic Four" films, Gruffudd's credits include "Amazing Grace," "King Arthur" and, of course, a series of Horatio Hornblower films.
Casting is also underway on CBS' horror pilot "Harper's Island." Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the pilot focuses on a group of friends who arrive at an island off the coast of Seattle for a destination wedding, only to get picked off one-by-one by a mysterious killer.
Ryan Merriman ("Final Destination 3") and Samantha Noble ("All Saints") will play the happy couple, with Irish actor Elaine Cassidy ("Felicia's Journey") as their friend with a tragic past.
