'Poltergeist' Star Haunts 'Dexter' Role

JoBeth Williams will play Julie Benz's mom, which seems plausible enough

Emmy nominated actress and Oscar nominated director JoBeth Williams has booked a multiepisode arc on Showtime's "Dexter."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Williams will appear in at least four episodes as the mother of Rita (Julie Benz). While Rita's either unaware (or pretending to be unaware) of boyfriend/serial killer Dexter's (Michael C. Hall) darker side, her momma isn't fooled.

"Dexter" returns for its second season on Sept. 30.

Most recently seen in the feature "In the Land of Woman," Williams' latest string of credits includes small screen appearances on "The Nine," "Criminal Minds," "Numb3rs," "24" and "Las Vegas." A three-time Emmy nominee (most recently for a guest turn on "Frasier"), she's still best known for film roles including "Poltergeist," "The Big Chill" and "Kramer vs. Kramer." She picked up an Oscar nomination for the 1994 short "On Hope."
