'Fast and Furious' star steps into Jolie role

ABC has found the female half of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" for its pilot based on the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie film.

Jordana Brewster, most recently seen in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning," will step into Jolie's form-fitting assassin gear for the pilot, the showbiz trade papers report. ABC has also added a couple other comedies to its development roster: an untitled show from ex-"Friends" writer/producer Shana Goldberg Meehan and a single-camera show called "See Jayne Run."

"Mr. and Mrs. Smith" will be the first prime-time series for Brewster, whose previous small-screen work includes the NBC miniseries "The '60s" and the CBS soap "As the World Turns" in the late 1990s. Her movie work includes "The Fast and the Furious," "The Faculty" and "Annapolis."

Simon Kinberg, the writer of the movie, and Doug Liman, its director, will perform the same duties on the "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" pilot, which takes place a few months after the events of the film. Kinberg and Liman are also serving as executive producers with Dave Bartis.

ABC has also greenlit two comedy pilots. The one from Goldberg-Meehan, who also worked on the "Friends" spinoff "Joey," is described as a comedy-infused soap set in Washington, D.C.

"See Jayne Run," from writer Alana Sanko (Nickelodeon's "Just for Kicks") and producer Peter Traugott ("Jake in Progress"), follows a successful career woman trying to balance the demands of her job and her family.
