Regular reportedly on the way out

The revolving door on the "Law & Order" casting office may soon be turning again.

Several news reports say that Annie Parisse, who plays Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Borgia on the long-running NBC series, could be on her way out at the end of the season. Parisse joined the cast midway through last season, replacing Elisabeth Rohm.

NBC isn't saying anything about the rumored departure, saying it wants to keep the details of how the show ends its 16th season close to the vest. In a press release outlining its May sweeps plans, the network says the finale of "Law & Order" will feature Borgia's boss, ADA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) "riski[ing] his career -- and those of others as well -- to bend the rules" and draw out a pair of sadistic criminals.

Parisse is the sixth person to play the second-chair prosecutor on "Law & Order," following Richard Brooks, Jill Hennessy, Carey Lowell, Angie Harmon and Rohm. Rohm's departure in January 2005 created a bit of a stir when her character, Serena Southerlyn, was fired and asked, "Is this because I'm a lesbian?" It was the first real peek viewers got into Southerlyn's personal life on a show that is famously stingy with its characters' back stories.

Parisse's other credits include the films "Monster-in-Law," "National Treasure" and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days."
