Phillips Faces Domestic Battery Charge
Actor allegedly dragged his girlfriend through their house
On Thursday, Sept. 21, the TV/movie star was charged with domestic battery for an incident involving his live-in girlfriend last month, report news sources.
On Aug. 11, Phillips was arguing with his girlfriend when things got physical. She then "was pushed and dragged across the house resulting in scrapes to both knees," says City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo in a statement. The girlfriend freed herself, locked herself in the bathroom and then called 911.
Around 2 a.m., the police arrived and arrested the actor. He was held for about 10 hours before he was released on $50,000 bail. His arraignment is set for Wednesday, Oct. 18 and if convicted of the misdemeanor charge, he faces up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Phillips, 44, was first married to Julie Cypher, who left him for rocker Melissa Etheridge, and then to former makeup artist Kelly Phillips before separating with her last year. Together they have three children: 8-year-old twins Grace and Isabella and 6-year-old Lili Jordan.
Phillips is best known for his film roles in "La Bamba" and "Stand and Deliver," but lately he's been making guest appearances on television series such as "Law & Order: SVU," "24" and "Numb3rs."
