'Friends' Co-Creator Dances to CW
One-hour pilot will center on a family-run dance studio
The writer-producer and Warner Bros. TV will create a one-hour pilot for the fledling network tentatively titled "Steps," a "comedrama" or "dancedy" about a family-run dance studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"It's really about dancers," says Kauffman. "They're desperate to find grace and beauty in an otherwise ugly world. They are very special people."
Kauffman will write and executive produce the project, which is in talks with choreographer Mia Michaels to act as a consultant.
Kauffman is learned about the world of dance from her mother, who earned money as a nightclub dancer during the Depression and then later opend a dance studio.
Kauffman is best known for creating "Friends" with David Crane. She also wrote for the now-defunct spinoff "Joey" and executive produced the short-lived dramedy "Related" for the WB.
