Molly Shannon Is Half of 'Kath and Kim'
Former 'Saturday Night Live' star cast in NBC comedy
Shannon will play one half of the often inappropriate mother-daughter duo in the network's remake of the Australian hit. Elsewhere, Lorraine Bracco has lined up her first post-"Sopranos" TV gig in Lifetime's pilot "Long Island Confidential," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Kath and Kim" comes from writer Michelle Nader ("The King of Queens") and centers on the relationship between mother Kath Day-Knight (Shannon) and her adult daughter Kim (who has yet to be cast), their various romantic entanglements and often outrageous behavior. The original show was a hit in Australia with both audiences and awards voters; it's aired in this country on BBC America and the Sundance Channel.
As with several other projects in development at NBC, it comes from co-chairman Ben Silverman's old company, Reveille.
Shannon starred in the well-received indie film "Year of the Dog" earlier this year and also had a role in "Evan Almighty." Her recent TV credits include FOX's short-lived series "Cracking Up" and a guest spot on "30 Rock." She also starred in an NBC pilot called "The Mastersons of Manhattan" last spring.
At Lifetime, Bracco and Jeffrey Pierce ("The Nine") have joined "Long Island Confidential," about a detective (Allison Elliott) who takes a job with her hometown police force. Bracco is set to play Elliott's mother in the pilot, while Pierce will play her new partner.
