Creator staying with show, but in reduced role

NBC's new show "My Own Worst Enemy," about a guy leading a double life, is getting a new behind-the-scenes personality.

Creator Jason Smilovic is stepping back from the day-to-day running of the show, which stars Christian Slater as a suburban father whose alter ego is a dangerous spy. "Alias" veteran John Eisendrath, who's currently a co-executive producer, is in talks to become the showrunner, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Smilovic will remain an exec producer, and NBC sources tell the trade paper that he's still the "creative force" behind "My Own Worst Enemy" and will work closely with Eisendrath in shaping the series.

NBC ordered the show straight to series after Slater signed on. Production is wrapping up on the first episode, which was directed by David Semel ("Heroes," "House").

Eisendrath was a writer and executive producer on "Alias" from 2001-04. He also created ESPN's "Playmakers" and served as a consulting producer on "K-Ville" last season.
