Mira Sorvino Gets Medieval on NBC
Victor Garber also starring in 'Last Templar' miniseries
The miniseries centers on archeologist Tess Chaykin (Sorvino), who gets drawn into an investigation of the medieval Knights Templar after a group of masked horsemen steals an artifact from the Metropolitan Museum. She and and FBI agent (who has yet to be cast) soon find themselves on a dangerous mission with its roots in the order's history and a secret closely guarded by the Vatican.
Garber ("Eli Stone," "Alias") will play a priest who helps Sorvino's character with the investigation.
Sorvino won an Oscar in 1996 for her role in Woody Allen's "Mighty Aphrodite." Her recent credits include a guest role on the Super Bowl episode of "House," the Lifetime miniseries "Human Trafficking" (which earned her a Golden Globe nod) and the feature "Reservation Road."
Production on "The Last Templar" will begin in April; an airdate hasn't been set. The project is based on a novel by Raymond Khoury; he also worked on the script, along with Suzette Couture ("Jesus," "The Mermaid Chair"). Paolo Barzman ("Relic Hunter," "The Dead Zone") is directing. Robert Halmi Sr. ("Tin Man," "Gulliver's Travels"), Robert Halmi Jr. (NBC's "Poseidon Adventure" remake) and Michael Prupas ("Human Trafficking") are executive producing.
"The Last Templar" will be NBC's first miniseries since "10.5: Apocalypse" aired in May 2006.
