Source material: Daniel Defoe's classic novel, which has been filmed dozens of times.

What's new: The series gives the famous castaway (Philip Winchester) a wife in Anna Walton and a mysterious patron in Sam Neill's Jeremiah Blackthorn.

What's not: The book's central relationship, between Crusoe and Friday, is still there -- though the context will likely change a bit.
