ABC's New Shows for the 2007-08 Season

ABC's New Shows for the 2007-08 Season: Cavemen

Premieres: Tuesday, Oct. 2
Airs: Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

The Pitch: Hey, those ads are funny. Lets make them 44 times longer.

Derived from, but not exactly connected to, the series of Geico insurance ads, this show follows the lives of three cavemen (Nick Kroll, Bill English and Sam Huntington), who have fully functioning brains inside their less-evolved bodies, as they try to fit into the 21st-century world.

What They Got Right: We should note here that the pilot sent to critics this summer is being substantially reworked. And in that there was precious little we liked, though Julie Whites performance as the boozy mother of Englishs girlfriend (Kaitlin Doubleday) was enjoyable.

Whats Oh, So Wrong: With the same caveat as above, the attempts to say something about prejudice in a show starring three white guys came across as pretty distasteful. If the show had been funny, the heavy-handed allegory might not have been as noticeable. But its not.

Recommended If ...: The reworked premiere is much, much, much better.
