Premieres: Wednesday, Sept. 19
Airs: Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
The Pitch: If you loved "Anchorwoman," you'll love "Back to You."
After an embarrassing incident, a big city news anchor (Kelsey Grammer) has to head back to his old market, where he has to reteam with his former co-anchor (Patricia Heaton), who also happens to be his ex. Now he has to reintegrate himself into a newsroom that includes a sexy weather girl (Ayda Field), an inexperienced news director (Josh Gad), an increasingly doddering sports reporter (Fred Willard) and an increasingly bitter lead reporter (Ty Burrell).
What They Got Right: Grammer, Heaton and Willard are old pros who know how to make the most of every punchline, and series creators Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd are veterans when it comes to the multi-camera format. The show may be new, but it's instantly comfortable and familiar.
What's Oh, So Wrong: Wait. That last point may not be a compliment. "Back to You" may be new, but it isn't even fleetingly fresh and anybody who ever watched "Mary Tyler Moore" or "Murphy Brown" or dozens of other superior sitcoms will feel like every joke has been told before. Also, FOX has asked reporters to keep one key plot twist a secret despite that fact that the same "surprise" twist has been used so often on TV that it isn't even slightly shocking.
Recommended If ...: Your lingering adoration for the show's stars is so strong you just don't care what they're doing.
