Pilots: Kelly Preston Armed for 'Shootout'
Actress joins HBO show; Adam Goldberg to ABC's 'Unusuals'
Kelly Preston ("Jerry Maguire") and Adam Goldberg ("Zodiac") head the latest round of casting for shows that are still in development for the 2008-09 midseason and beyond.
Preston will star in HBO's "Suburban Shootout," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Goldberg, meanwhile, is joining the ensemble in ABC's cop drama "The Unusuals." Also at ABC, Nick Thune will star in the comedy "Roman's Empire."
"Suburban Shootout" is a dark comedy, based on a British series, about a woman who leaves the city for what she believes is an idyllic suburb. She soon discovers, however, that two well-armed gangs of housewives are locked in a war for control of the town. Preston will play the leader of one gang.
Preston is coming off a recurring role on NBC's "Medium." Her recent credits also include "Fat Actress" and "Sky High."
"The Unusuals," from "Bones" writer-producer Noah Hawley, is a drama laced with humor set at a New York police precinct. Goldberg will play a detective who's hiding the fact that he has a brain tumor. The actor has a recurring part on "Entourage" and has appeared in the films "Deja Vu," "2 Days in Paris" and "Nancy Drew" in the past couple of years.
Comedian Thune ("Knocked Up") has landed the lead role in "Roman's Empire," about a guy who can't break free from his girlfriend's wealthy family -- even after she breaks up with him. The show comes from "Malcolm in the Middle" and "NewsRadio" writer Alan J. Higgins; Ashton Kutcher is among the executive producers.
