'Cupid' Arrow Finds Sarah Paulson
'Studio 60' star cast in ABC remake
She'll star opposite Bobby Cannavale in the update of the late-'90s cult show. Elsewhere at ABC, Sharon Lawrence has joined "The Prince of Motor City," and Jeremy Renner has come aboard "The Unusuals," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In "Cupid," Paulson will play Claire Allen, a psychiatrist who's assigned to keep tabs on Trevor Hale (Cannavale), who believes he's the titular god of love, after he's released from a mental institution. Paula Marshall played the role in the original series, which aired on ABC in 1998-99.
Rob Thomas, who created the original series, is performing the same duties on the new version. The cast also includes Rick Gomez ("What About Brian") as the bar owner who offers Trevor a place to stay.
Paulson played actress Harriet Hayes on Aaron Sorkin's "Studio 60" in 2006-07. Her credits also include a recurring part on "Deadwood" and the comic-book film "The Spirit," which is due out late this year.
Lawrence, a three-time Emmy nominee for her work on "NYPD Blue," is set to play Piper Perabo's mother in "The Prince of Motor City," a family soap set in the auto industry. Her recent credits include "Hidden Palms," the Lifetime miniseries "The Capture of the Green River Killer" and a recurring part on "Monk."
Renner ("The Assassination of Jesse James," "28 Weeks Later") has joined the ensemble of "The Unusuals," about a New York police precinct. He'll play a detective who partners with Amber Tamblyn's character to solve the murder of his former partner.
