'American Teenager' Still Expecting for Second Season
ABC Family has picked up original series for 24 episodes
ABC Family picked up his highest-rated original series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" for a second season, it was announced Monday.
"'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' has really struck a chord not just with our millennial audience, but with viewers across the board," says Kate Juergens, the network's exec VP of original programming and development. "We're delighted to announce the series will return. The success of this show goes directly to creator Brenda Hampton's telling of this heartfelt story and is backed by the standout performances of our talented cast."
The series has been picked up for an additional 24 episodes, which will tentatively return this summer.
"American Teenager" has been doing very well in its Monday, 8 p.m. time period, claiming the No. 1 spot on cable for total viewers (3.7 million), adults 18-34 (1.1 million), adults 18-49 (1.7 million) and viewers 12-34 (2.5 million). Not only has it been kicking butt against its time-period rival "Gossip Girl" on the CW, but it's helped make 2008 ABC Family's most-watched year on record.
The first season's finale will air on Monday, March 23.
