Series is network's first original comedy

Spike TV has greenlit its first ever original comedy series, figuring that its male target audience could use a laugh.

The guy's cable channel has ordered six episodes of a show called "Factory," about, no surprise, a group of guys who work in a factory. The show comes from comedian Mitch Rouse, who co-created "Strangers with Candy" and will direct and star in the new show.

"'Factory' is a unique improvised comedy that captures the everyday lives of four regular guys," says Bill McGoldrick, who oversees original programming for Spike TV. "This is Spike's first original comedy and a great example of the type of comedic series which we are looking to develop."

Rouse, whose recent credits include "Friends with Money" and a recurring role on "Reno 911," will play one of those four guys. "Factory" also stars fellow "Strangers with Candy" alum David Pasquesi, Michael Coleman ("The Comebacks") and Jay Leggett ("In Living Color").

Rouse has also appeared on "According to Jim" and ABC's short-lived 2003 series "Lost at Home." He also co-wrote the script for "Without a Paddle" (with Leggett) and wrote and directed the 2004 Matt Dillon-Steve Zahn movie "Employee of the Month."
