ABC joins other networks in hedging its bets in case of a writers strike

LOS ANGELES -- All three of the comedies ABC picked up for the fall ("Carpoolers," "Cavemen" and "Samantah Who?") and the one for midseason ("Miss/Guided") are single-camera, with none of the hallmarks of a traditional comedy such as laugh tracks.

But now the network is hedging its bets, giving a pilot order to a multi-camera comedy from ABC Studios starring Cedric the Entertainer, thus bearing fruit from the talent development deal brokered last fall.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is about a man who finds his role as family breadwinner usurped when his wife's hobby snowballs into a multimillion-dollar business.

The script is from Rock Reuben and Michael Soccio ("The King of Queens"). Cedric and his manager Eric Rhone will co-executive producer along with the writers.
