Network orders six episodes of improv series

LOS ANGELES -- NBC will bring some improvised yuks to its airwaves later this year, courtesy of a new series called "Thank God You're Here."

The network has ordered six episodes of the show, which is a hit in several other countries. David Alan Grier ("In Living Color," "Little Man") will host the American version, with former Kid in the Hall Dave Foley serving as judge.

"This series is basically every adventurous performer's dream, and we think the viewers can vicariously enjoy how they respond to their unforeseen predicaments," says Craig Plestis, head of alternative programming at NBC. "It has a daring, seat-of-your pants feel that's proven to be a big hit in its original Australian version."

In each episode, an actor will be put in costume and pushed through a door into a scene they know nothing about. They'll be greeted with the line, "Thank God you're here!," and then must react to whatever situation is put before them.

The pilot episode will feature Bryan Cranston ("Malcolm in the Middle"), Jennifer Coolidge ("Best in Show"), Joel McHale ("The Soup") and Wayne Knight ("Seinfeld").

FremantleMedia North America is producing the show. Cecile Frot-Coutaz ("American Idol"), Fax Bahr and Adam Small ("Blue Collar TV") are the executive producers, while Grier will serve as a producer.
