Good Sign: TBS Renews 'Bill Engvall Show'
Comic will also host 'Blue Collar' special
The cable network has picked up a second season of "The Bill Engvall Show," which debuted to solid ratings this summer. Additionally, the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" veteran will host a special at November's Comedy Festival in Las Vegas featuring a new generation of blue-collar comedians.
"Working with Bill and the wonderful and immensely talented people behind his show has been a great experience, and we couldn't be happier about continuing that relationship on this, TBS' first in-house production," says Michael Wright, head of original programming at TBS.
The show stars Engvall as a family counselor who's also trying to keep his own brood on the right track. The cast also includes Nancy Travis ("Becker"), Tim Meadows ("Saturday Night Live"), Jennifer Lawrence, Graham Patrick Martin and Skyler Gisondo.
It's the No. 2 comedy on ad-supported cable this year in the key adults 18-49 demographic, right behind another TBS show, "House of Payne."
In addition to a second season of the show, Engvall will also host the special "Blue Collar Comedy: The Next Generation," which is scheduled to debut Nov. 17 on TBS. The show will feature comedians Jamie Kaler (TBS' "My Boys"), John Caparulo, Reno Collier and Juston McKinney.
