'Kidnapped' star signs on to pilot

TNT has found a star for its pilot "Leverage," signing "Kidnapped" star Timothy Hutton for the the Robin Hood-esque drama.

Elsewhere in the cableverse, Allison Elliott ("The Assassination of Jesse James") and Ruben Santiago-Hudson ("Lackawanna Blues") for its pilot "Long Island Confidential," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Leverage" comes from writer-director Dean Devlin ("The Triangle," "Independence Day"), who's executive producing with "Transformers" scribe John Rogers. It centers on Hutton's character, a one-time insurance investigator whose son died after the companies he used to work for denied the boy treatment. He now crusades for the people fighting those moneyed interests, using not-quite-legal means when necessary.

Hutton starred in NBC's "Kidnapped" last season and has several movie projects due for release in the next year, including the John Krasinski-directed "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men." His film credits also include "Ordinary People" (for which he won an Oscar), "Beautiful Girls" and "The Good Shepherd."

At Lifetime, meanwhile, Elliott will star in "Long Island Confidential" as a detective who takes a job in her hometown on the titular New York island. She's appeared in "The Wings of the Dove" and ABC's "A Wrinkle in Time" and guest-starred on "ER." Santiago-Hudson, the Tony-winning creator of "Lackawanna Blues," will play her boss.
