They say good fences make good neighbors. We say good costume designers make for good-looking television. And to be honest, both statements seem accurate for the "Desperate Housewives" of Wisteria Lane.

Thanks to Emmy-nominated costume designer Cate Adair ("The District," "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!"), the housewives are hotter than asphalt in the Texas summer sun. And when we think of hot and desperate, the character Edie Britt, played by Nicollette Sheridan, comes immediately to mind. This serial divorcee is regularly sheathed in some of the finest designer apparel available, with the singular intent of finding a man for whom she can immediately unsheathe the aforementioned apparel.

It's quite clear Edie is having the most fun on the block and is willing to flaunt all that God - and board-certified cosmetic surgeons - have given her. Whether she's wearing a cleavage-baring lace pink camisole by Cosabella or a White and Warren cropped cardigan, Edie leaves no room for doubt: The chick's hot to trot and on the prowl. Why else would she wear a push-up bustier to a real estate closing?

But don't get us wrong; she's not always dressed as a coquettish hussy. In times of formal necessity - like funerals, wakes, court proceedings - Edie slides comfortably into suits by Kay Unger New York and light summer dresses by Chloe. You could almost introduce her to your mother in them. Almost.

So what do you do if you're interested in pulling together the Edie signature look? Well, it's as simple as washing a new pair of jeans in hot water. That is to say think tight, tight, tight. First, we'd suggest a perfect pair of Beverly jeans replete with oversize pockets with everything from embroidered fleur-de-lis to studded crosses. Trust us, they're insanely hot and worth the money. Next, go with a low-cut camisole - perhaps something from one of Adair's favorites, Nanette Lepore or Catherine Malandrino - layered by a white blouse from America Eagle, unbuttoned, of course. Hey, you paid for them; show them off. For the feet, a strapping pair of Jimmy Choos. Then try a pair of thin, dangling silver earrings and Oliver Peoples cameo sunglasses - with an orchid gradient - and you will look like you're ready to provocatively close the deal on the property at Wisteria Lane.
