Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose star for Amy Sherman-Palladino

Her "Law & Order" successor Fred Thompson may be running for president, but Dianne Wiest is content to snag a recurring role on a FOX midseason comedy.

FOX announced Thursday (Sept. 6) that the two-time Oscar winner will play a key role in "The Return of Jezebel James," the return of Amy Sherman-Palladino ("Gilmore Girls") to primetime.

Wiest will play Talia, the mother of formerly estranged sisters Sarah (Parker Posey) and Coco (Lauren Ambrose). The mismatched sisters become roommates when Coco agrees to carry Sarah's baby.

Other co-stars include Scott Cohen, Michael Arden and Ron McClarty.

In addition to her pair of Oscar wins for Woody Allen's "Bullets Over Broadway" and "Hannah and Her Sisters," Wiest won an Emmy for a guest appearance on "Road to Avonlea." D.A. Nora Lewin on "Law & Order," Wiest's other recent TV credits include the telefilms "The Blackwater Lightship" and "Category 6: Day of Destruction."
